Gerard was admitted as a Solicitor in 1996. He joined John McKee & Son in 2004 and became a Partner in the firm in 2008.
Gerard's main areas of expertise are in property and banking law. He has represented developers, retail and commerial clients and institutional lenders in a wide range of property transactions. These include site acquisition and development for both commercial and residential use, commercial leases and construction contracts. He regularly advises banks and other financial institutions in secured lending matters, notably AIB Group (UK) plc, Anglo Irish Bank Corporation plc, Bank of Ireland and Ulster Bank Limited.
Some of the larger projects in which Gerard has been involved recently include the restructuring of a major proposed retail, office and leisure development in City Centre Belfast, the property aspects of the proposed takeover of a significant Northern Ireland development company and various acquisitions of comercial property, including a mixed use development site, a hotel and a shopping centre.
In addition, Gerard manages the firm's private client department whose work includes conveyancing, wills and trusts and probate.
Gerard is a member of the Northern Ireland Commercial Property Lawyers’ Association and the Northern Ireland Company and Commercial Lawyers’ Group.
Away from work, Gerard is kept busy with his young family. He enjoys travelling and has visited Kenya, Sri Lanka and Zanzibar in recent years. His interests include music, playing golf and following the fortunes of the Down Gaelic Football team. He is also a member of the Northern Ireland Autism charity, Autism NI - PAPA.
